6 Tips for a Cheap Wedding

by Isis Nouvelle

The average cost of a wedding is at an all time high; with an average day costing around 25,000 dollars it accounts for why the industry is worth an astonishing 25 billion dollars. There is huge pressure on young people to spend vast sums of money on their wedding but it really isn't necessary; although you may not believe it now, a cheap wedding can be arranged which everyone will enjoy. However, sometimes all that is needed is some help with the planning to help lower that total; generally making savings on those aspects that are always expensive.

1. Low Cost Bridal Gown - The wedding dress is one area where huge amounts of money are spent; this is something that will only ever be worn once so a previously owned dress is worth consideration. The huge cost of a new wedding dress cannot always be justified these days; many bridal shops carry a large number of previously owned dresses that can be hired or bought for considerably less than new.

2. Wedding Reception Preparations - The wedding reception is normally the biggest expense and where costs can get out of hand; to reduce the financial outlay look at how many guests you plan to invite to your cheap wedding. Don't invite everyone you know, in particular relatives you haven't seen since you were a child; as far as the meal is concerned why not have a buffet instead of a full, waited on, three course meal.

The venue of the wedding reception can also be somewhere less expensive than the local golf club or hotel; using a small club for example will mean the drinks bill is less by only catering for wine, beer and soft drinks at the bar.

3. The Wedding Photographs - As far as the photographer is concerned, why not just hire one for the service; most guests take cameras and will be happy to take photos at the reception and of course you will have plenty to choose from. If you really want to be 'avant guard', why pay for a photographer at all; these days most people know someone who is a keen, capable amateur photographer, and there is nothing wrong with asking them to take photos throughout the whole day.

4. Home Computer Original Stationary - When looking at other areas where money can be saved, do not overlook wedding stationery; invitations for example, do not have to be taken to a printer when they can be produced by anyone reasonably competent with a home computer. With the correct programs, all the work can be checked fully before it is printed out; this means that often costly errors and adjustments that are often required in the early stages of the work are not made.

5. Wedding Flowers - Florists and flower arranging can be very expensive, especially for special occasions; why not buy them direct and arrange them yourself or enroll a friend to do this for you. Wedding cakes are another costly item but this can easily be made by a friend; these days' people often experiment with different fillings that do not rely on fruit - which has been used in cakes for generations.

6. Wedding Transportation - Savings can also be made by not hiring that expensive limousine and using a friend's vehicle; given a good clean and polish it can make an acceptable substitute.

Savings can be made everywhere if you just know where to look but this doesn't mean it has to look like a cheap wedding; who will care providing everyone enjoys the occasion!

Unique Gift Ideas for Your Wedding Favors

by Aurelia M. Fleur

It is often the case that the simplest part of something, often takes the longest to arrange; wedding favors can be one of those. Don't worry if you can't think of anything as there is a whole industry set up supplying treats for guests. This is important because it can take a great deal of stress when you realize the big event is rapidly approaching and these haven't been organized.

One option for an easy wedding favor, especially popular with women is flowers. The preparation for flowers is almost non existent other than deciding on what flowers to use which can be ordered reasonably close to the big day.

Many people who choose flowers decide on a single red rose for each guest as a symbol of their love. You can simply purchase one for each guest and have a member of the catering staff, a friend or family member place one rose across each place setting after the tables have been set for the wedding reception.

More and more people decide an easy wedding favor to give their guests is candy in a presentation tin or box. However, there is an even easier way to give candy and also help you to save money on centerpieces. This can be accomplished by using large bowls filled with different types of candy as the centerpieces on each table.

Each wedding guest can then have a small bag or box to place their favorite candy in to eat when they like. This really is easy because each guest can choose whatever candy they like and there isn't a single piece of wrapping in sight.

Pictures frames can also work well especially if they are used as place card holders. This is a good idea but wrapping this type of wedding favor can put many people off especially when there are a large number of guests. If you use the frames to hold the place cards however, wrapping will not be necessary.

An easy wedding favor that might appeal is to have the photographer take a digital picture of each guest and then present it to them at the wedding reception as they arrive. If he brings along a printer you can distribute the photos before your guests begin to leave the reception. It is a nice gift and a wedding favor your guests will appreciate when they leave with a photo of how they looked on your wedding day. If the photographer can arrange a slide show, the guests not only get a personal memento but they also get the opportunity to see how the photos turned out for all of the other guests as well.

Weddings are one of the most important events in a married person’s life. With the continuance of marriage, comes wedding anniversaries which is celebrated every year to commemorate the wedding.

Apart from the celebration itself, wedding gifts are another important element which needs to be taken into consideration. It is a tradition for family members and friends to present their loved ones with gifts on their wedding anniversary to mutually celebrate the joy and happiness shared by the couples in overcoming all obstacles and complications during the years of their marriage. Therefore, the gift item itself must be special, personalized, meaningful and most importantly, it must be able to portray the uniqueness and strength of the couple’s commitment and relationship.

Gifts giving during wedding anniversaries dated back to the Middle Ages. During that time, there was a guideline in what gifts were given. The value of the gift increases with the number of years of the marriage and bears different meaning. The item given also varies according to different anniversaries which symbolizes the strength and maturity of the marriage.

For instance, during the medieval times, a husband will present his wife with a wreath of silver to celebrate the 25th anniversary or also known as the Silver anniversary. To mark the Golden or 50th anniversary, he would similarly crown the wife with a wreath of gold. This practice, believed to be originated from Central Europe, had since been adopted by many until now. During the Victorian Era, the 60th anniversary was appended to the original 75th diamond anniversary when the English Empire Monarch, Queen Victoria celebrated her Diamond Jubilee on her 60th anniversary of her coronation in 1897. Therefore, people during the era will present their spouse a gift of precious diamond to commemorate their 60th wedding anniversary celebration.

In 1922, Emily Post in her writings Blue Book of Social Usage had listed 1st, 5th, 10th, 15th, 20th, 25th, 50th and 75th anniversaries as what she called as the ‘Eight Anniversaries Know to All’. She also assigned an item to each of the anniversaries. The list had later being elaborated and had become the basis for the wedding anniversary gifts list we implement today. In the late 1930s, people tend to only celebrate what is known as milestone anniversaries consisting of the 1st, 10th, 20th, 25th, 50th, and 70th anniversaries. A gift item for each and every one of these milestone anniversaries was also collectively determined by the general public during that period of time.

It is always a good idea to do some research before deciding on what to buy for your parents, family members or friends to celebrate their wedding anniversaries. There are numerous books, magazines and websites that offer endless ideas of an ideal anniversary gift. You can also seek opinion from various wedding reception and party supplies vendors. These ideas can then be customized and personalized to suit your budget, preferences, celebration theme and other factors. For example, on their 50th anniversary, you can present a wedding anniversary gift for your mom and dad that is made of gold. This can be a gold-plated photo frame with a reprint of their favorite wedding photo, or a matching set of gold ring or band complete with engraving of the anniversary date and their names.

While some might prefer sticking to the gift items on the traditional list, there are also numerous modern ideas on suitable items to be given as wedding anniversary gifts. There are also some who fancies the idea of giving peculiar items. unity candles sets and memorial candles, though customarily used during weddings, can also become an interesting wedding anniversary gift. Other items that can also be given as anniversary gifts are such as a set of china, silverware, home appliances, leather goods, clothing and apparels, jewelries and decorative items and ornaments.
