Top Wedding Tips: Destination Wedding Activities

As brides get more imaginative in wedding planning, weddings in far off destinations are becoming ever more in demand. Although this normally results in a reduced list of wedding guests, it opens up opportunities for fun activities.

Many brides long to have their wedding seaside, so they locate the ceremony to a beach locale, either on their local coast or somewhere more exotic like Hawaii or the Bahamas. In any event, there are many activities that can be arranged around this theme. If the wedding ceremony is also a weekend happening where guests will be around for morethan just the celebration, the bride could arrange a sailing excursion. Why not rent a boat for a day and bring your wedding guests out on the water to swim or relax, and maybe enjoy a meal on board or on the beach.

If the wedding is in the Caribbean, how about a cookery demonstration? The bride could organize for thewedding guests to enjoy a cooking demonstration put on by the hotel or a local cook. Since much of the food the guests eat while visiting for the wedding will be very different from what they eat back home, they might like learning how to prepare it at home.

Say the ceremony is on a Hawaiian island, another popular wedding spot. Here, you could organize several activities around the location. What about a luau? This could even take the place of a more conventional or formal sit down rehearsal dinner.

Also in Hawaii, wedding guests will like a hula lesson.

Other pre-wedding activities could be shopping excursions and guided tours and wine tasting activities, where appropriate. If you decide to offer any of these activities keep in mind that the bride and groom, or their family, are expected to pay for the majority or all of them. If you organize a sailing excursion, for example, you are expected to pick up the cost for the outing. Do not tell guests ahead of time that the activity will be x dollars. That won’t sit well.

As one of the great assets of the destination wedding ceremony is that only your dearest family and friends will share the moment with you, you may set up some meaningful activities that you wouldn't set up if the wedding was a larger occasion. For example, you could organize a slumber party night with close friends that includes movies, drinks and popcorn in your hotel room, villa or cottage, depending on where the wedding is being held.

Naturally, if you pick a destination wedding, for many guests this might become their vacation. In which case you might not want to plan too many activities but instead let the guests to find their own entertainment and activities both before and after the ceremony.
